The city of Melbourne, 2008, as it is...
The main character is looking after her grandmother's apartment, while she is visiting the grandfather in hospital...slight belief in the supernatural...there may be the existance of ghosts...
The girl walks around the city, not old enough to drive, while her grandmother can't see well enough to drive she catches public transport...
The grandmother does not own a television, or radio, so the girl got used to reading for fun whenever she stayed there.
The grandmother owns a small doll collections which she treasures from her childhood. One of the dolls, her favourite, and most precious is a beautiful but creepy china doll.
The girl knows that she is not allowed to touch it, because when she was younger she got in a lot of trouble when she tried to play with them.
